Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-recruiting)

Recommended Posts

"If Beck manages to survive past the season opener as the offensive coordinator, it will represent the first time that a play caller has remained in the position for more than 14 games since Bryan Harsin held that role in 2011 and 2012.

Since 2009, Texas has run eight different offenses, only one of which survived two full seasons. Since 2010, the Texas offensive staff has featured six offensive coordinators, an in-season change of play callers, and 27 different assistant coaches. Six coaches have been in charge of the offensive line, while seven coaches have now worked with the wide receivers."

I've listened to this twice now. I realize most of it was coach speak. But he really needs to get the offense right. Whether it's calling plays or getting the substitution pattern right. If he wins fewer games than expected, he will be judged by Longhorn nation on those two things.

Wait, so a 6th round pick is unhappy because his coaches said he should have returned to school? Good grief.

Dickson and Williams were the only 2 that were draft ready. Williams probably didn't want to chance getting injured again and Dickson just won the Ray Guy. The others should have returned.

Was looking at the roster and most everyone has bullshit majors, except Hager's is philosophy. I'll just leave that here.

This has been a thing for a long time. Put players in majors that won’t threaten their eligibility. Very common.

    • Yeah, Sopsher was just a name to throw out and get this train rolling.  I figure he is LSU or Bama bound.  I'm good with the staff turning their attention to 2020.  It just feels slow these days.  I like the early signing period, but it sucks in mid-January.
    • JB, I'm afraid he's right. Football is becoming less popular and has less participation than its had in years. Along the eastern seaboard and even midwest, public schools are cancelling their football programs due to cost and lack of interest. Its alarming. I know its hard to imagine being from Texas, but elsewhere, its reality. This past season I watched a ton of clips from our California recruits. Even the big Mater Dei vs Westlake game was a half-filled stadium, so public interest seems to dropping as well.
    • Point to PD for the clever and humorous GIF. I guess we'll see in time.
    • Daniel is more informed on these things than I, so I defer final word to him. But from what I know, we're not in the ballpark for Sopsher. I think if we even had a foot in the door – it would be dominating this page right now. I wish I were wrong, he's a top player at a need position. From what I've heard, staff is focused on 2020 now and are probably going to wrap up 2019 with the Ira recruitment, a DL recruitment and later grad transfer market (college free agency). But TH is determined not to let eggy get the jump this year. Its working.
    • Ok, getting back on track, are there other 19 prospects the Horns are pursuing besides Ira and Shep?  Another RB perhaps or another Dlineman.  Speaking of Dline, are the Horns actively talking to Sopsher at all or is that a non-starter?
