Friday Night Lights – State Semi Finals

Recommended Posts

Texas commits head into State Semi Final round

And then there were three.

Three Texas commits remain in contention for the big prize, the state championship. Cameron Dicker, the kicker for Lake Travis; B.J. Foster, the do it all player for Angleton; and Keaontay Ingram, the workhorse tailback for Carthage, all walked away winners in the state regional finals last week.

Texas already has one state champion commit, from Kentucky, in Rondale Moore who was also named Kentucky’s “Mr Football” last week.

Now, in the state semifinals, everything gets a bit more difficult and complicated. Foster could be playing in the state’s best contest this week when he and his Wildcat team mates take on Manvel in NRG Stadium. The amount of talent on the field will be staggering.

Ingram and his Bulldogs will meet undefeated LaVega at the Ford Center in Frisco. And Dicker and the Cavaliers will take on powerful Katy in the Alamodome.

Keep an eye on the Boling vs Newton game in Porter. Boling Do-it-all Vernon Jackson, a Texas target, had the mother of all nights last week when he racked up 418 yards on 36 carries and five touchdowns.

Teams I'm hot on right now – Pleasant Grove, Muenster, Austin McCallum.

If I were going to a game this weekend it would be (I'm in DFW):

1. Canadian vs Gunter in Vernon

or

2. Carthage vs LaVega in Frisco

Best game in the state: Angleton vs Manvel at NRG

Upset pick of the week: Mansfield Legacy over Aledo

Carthage vs La Vega would be my pick hands down. Both teams have breezed through the playoffs.

In your line of work I'm sure you're in good with the rain gods. Please ask them for rain in Kaufman County. My duck ponds are dry.

I'll be further east, near the Arkansas border. But I hear we have a good shot for rain Saturday evening. Only supposed to be a half inch though. Maybe more where your pond is at.

Where I'll be, they calling for all-day rain with lows in the low 30s which should be fun.

Pleasant Grove's OL and DL are just dominating this one. Frustration is showing on the Graham side, lots of punches being thrown.

PG just was too big strong for Graham. They also had more speed. Both teams ran the slot T offense but when Graham went down big early it forced them into some spread 5 wide stuff. PG had some dudes in the back field, #15 their FB/RB was hard to bring down. #2 SB/WB was fast. Graham had no answer all night. I spoke with some old college buddies in the stands (who grew up in Graham) and they said the didn't think they had a chance against PG, said their team hadn't really played anybody all year and this was their first test by playing somebody who was bigger, faster, and stronger than they were. The score sure showed that way at the end of the game. The Star was a neat place, I'd recommend y'all going to try and catch a game there next year. Lots of restaurants/bars in the area are walk-able.

A PG vs Wos will definetly favor us. We have seen the wing T slot T offense at least 25 times during the current 40 game win streak. I'm not taking anything from PG but I can assure you without seeing them that they are not as big/fast as kennedale. We held them to season lows in every category. Nevertheless, we can't wait to get back to Dallas. 40 wins in a row. 4th straight state semi final win. 4th straight trip to championship game. Trying for our 3rd title game win in a row. Mighty Mustangs go fight win!!!!!!!
