The Opening Regional- Dallas Thread

Recommended Posts

UNC is the odds on favorite it seems. From what we know it stems from that the staff still wants time to evaluate their options, though they do like Thompson.

I don't blame Thompson for losing interest in us. IMO that's a slap in the face by us telling the kid, hey we really like you but we're going to see if we can find someone better first.

I understand what the staff is doing in holding off until they evaluate him, but the kid is looking to commit in a few months. I'm sure he's looking to feel truly wanted by the school he's going to be playing for.

Some thoughts on the day:

- Rafiti Ghirmai is good as advertised. Chalk it up to home field advantage. Dude is high on Texas for sure, but the race is nowhere near over.
- I didn't see why Atanza Vongor got the Opening invite. I know I wasn't the only one.
- best DBs there were Caden Stern, Isaiah Humphries, and a huge tie for 3rd
- Roschon Johnson is good as advertised
- Trey Stratford had a hard day. Don't think it's indicative of him though.
- Chasen Hines did well. I wasn't awestruck but I can see the appeal. He needs to lose a few Lunda and replace them with some good weight.
- Alston Orji did well on one-on-ones but suffered in coverage.
- Byron Hobbs was here and there in coverage. Sometime played well. Other times let WR slip behind him. Did well on one on ones
- Deshaun White picked up a TCU offer yesterday and put actions behind it today. Played very well including a few picks. He played as a LB.
- As many of you know Overshown was a no shown ☜(゚ヮ゚☜)
- Jaquayln Crawford is faaaaaast! Dude is electric in real life as his film. And he loves Texas. Told me A&M kind of blew their chances. He's very high on Texas.
- People were telling me Keaontay Ingram had a bad day at 1-on-1's. I didn't see them so I can't say. But he did well just about everywhere else. The Opening isn't good for RBs anyway.
- The talent out there was good. It was more spread out than Houston, but there weren't anywhere near as many elite of the elite players.
- Lloyd Carr Jr had a few great reps and a few reps that were not so good 😐
- Ron Tatum on the other hand had an insane day. Dude was the real deal.
- I don't think Texas has any chance with Josh Proctor. That man is either OU or tOSU bound. He also nearly took a guy's head off. Too bad there aren't any pads b/c that would have been a hit for SCTop10.
- Arjei Henderson was okay. Wasn't overly impressed.

- Same for Kameron Brown ^

There were a lot of guys under the radar or guys who are young guns:
- Trejan Bridges 2019 WR Hebron. Dude balled out. That's my boy. He was the best WR out there besides Mike's Battle. He'll be getting big time offers by the end of the week. Count it.
- Caden Leggett out of Georgetown. Watch his tape. It translated better to field. Texas should take a look at this hometown guy.
- Tyreck James out of China Springs. Best TE out there.
- Danny Gray was maybe the best WR out there today from 2018. He's already got some big time offers, but he's about to blow up.
- Jace McClellan may be the best RB in 2020. Future 4 or 5 star. Hop on this train early.
- Brodrick Calhoun from Mesquite Horn is so fast it's insane.
- Dax Hill a DB from Oklahoma did well. He's also fast and big. Dudes 6' 180 and ran a 4.46 40, has a 37.5" vertical, and a shuttle of 4.14. Insane. He has OU and Ok State offers and is a 2019 kid.

Good stuff Will, man I really like Ron Tatum, any word on that recruitment or is he another Oklahoma kid that absolutely won't leave the state?

Man Hines seems like he just keeps getting bigger and bigger is that 350 good or bad weight?

It's not the best weight 😅

Definitely carrying some bad weight. He is going to have to dedicate himself to shedding some weight before next season.

    • Texas coach Tom Herman made most of off week recruiting in his Bevocopter     Photo: Associated Press   24SHARES  SHARE  TWEET  EMAIL By: Cam Smith, USA TODAY High School Sports | October 22, 2018 Texas A&M has the “swagcopter”, made popular by now former A&M coach Kevin Sumlin’s quick dash recruiting trips. Now second-year Texas coach Tom Herman’s making the most of his own helicopter, especially on his team’s week off. Herman spent a whirlwind Thursday and Friday night crisscrossing high profile sections of Texas, attending the games of high profile recruits after landing Texas football’s dedicated helicopter, the appropriately named “Bevocopter.” Twitter Ads info and privacy       Per 247Sports, those Herman Thursday pit stops included a stop to see Class of 2019 defensive end T’Vondre Sweat, Class of 2020 wide receiver Troy Omeire, while his Friday was even more a mad trolley dash run through. Just look at the list of players Herman got in front of while flexing the use of his Bevocopter: Andrew Coker, Bryce Foster, Hayden Connor, Zachary Evans, Damieon George and Shardach Banks, Javonne Shepherd, Demond Demas, Vernon Broughton, Prince Dorbah and Chad Linberg. While that massive crop of recruits is unlikely to commit to Texas en masse, it’s clear that Herman’s Bevocopter arrivals only helped his program’s cause. “It was something you’re not going to see everyday,” Omeire told 247Sports. “He didn’t have to come to my game, so it means a lot for him to have come and spent time with my team.” Added Evans: “It was a good feeling. I honestly didn’t see it at first. My team actually saw it and asked me who it was. It was live.” Or, most impressed of all: The mother of Linberg, Emily Linberg: “We were super excited about the arrival of the Bevocopter,” the elder Linberg told 247Sports. “I hadn’t really told a lot of people, so everyone was wondering what it was. I don’t think Chad’s teammates really thought it was going to happen, so they were thrilled. UT’s stock definitely rose.” https://usatodayhss.com/2018/texas-coach-tom-herman-made-most-of-off-week-recruiting-in-his-bevocopter
    • Good length, solid feet and does a good job not letting them die on contact as a run blocker. Moves around pretty good, but he worries me with how early he turns his shoulders in pass pro. That’s something better rushers will expose.
    • With WR Turpin arrested for assault of a family member....solid week for Patterson.
    • Hookfin isn’t a name I’m familiar with. That’s a solid class, but it’s lacking interior bodies and particularly one that can at least crosstrain at center. Shepherd’s floor also spooks me a little bit. 6.5 is my cautious answer.
